Late rise and early set

The Nordic sun in winter

Born and raised in Texas, I spent 33 years in New York City and points north, until in late summer 2021 I moved to southern Finland with my Finnish wife and three daughters. We are still here. We have survived and, in some respects, thrived here despite the many challenges.

In NYC you might hear the Yiddish ‘oy vey’ as an expression of dismay, often translated “woe is me!” Similarly, the Finnish expression ‘voi ei’ means “oh no!” In either language, it is a sentiment that could be expressed by expats anywhere when they compare the peculiarities of their new land with the old and are overwhelmed with nostalgia. It happens.

I created Nordic Cowboy to examine Finland through the eyes of a Texan. Don’t have any merch or services to sell you yet. Maybe one day.
There you go.
